Description of Role |

The Editor-in-Chief is a pivotal role responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of our quarterly newsletter. The Editor-in-Chief oversees the entire editorial process, from content creation to final publication. This position requires a creative thinker, an excellent communicator, and a meticulous editor who can enhance the reader experience.
Key Responsibilities:
● Newsletter Production:
○ Conceptualize, plan, and produce a quarterly newsletter for SFIN.
○ Collaborate with writers, contributors, and the Senior Collections Officer to gather relevant content.
○ Ensure adherence to deadlines and publication schedules.
● Content Curation:
○ Work closely with other departments to source pertinent information.
○ Curate engaging articles, updates, and features for the News section of the newsletter.
● Collaboration with Senior Collections Officer and Senior Intelligence Officer:
○ Partner with the Senior Collections Officer and Senior Intelligence Officer to obtain exclusive content, interviews, convention listings, event listings and insights.
○ Edit and refine contributed articles to align with the newsletter’s tone and style.
○ Enhance the visual appeal of content through layout and design.
● Proofreading and Fact-Checking:
○ Thoroughly review all articles, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
○ Fact-check information and verify sources.
○ Correct grammar, spelling, and formatting errors.
● Aesthetic Enhancement:
○ Elevate the visual presentation of the newsletter.
○ Collaborate with graphic designers or use available tools to create visually appealing layouts.
○ Select high-quality images and illustrations to complement articles.
● Original Content Creation:
○ Occasionally source and create original content, such as editorials, interviews, or feature stories.
○ Maintain a fresh and engaging perspective for readers.
● Other duties as assigned by the Director. |
Skills Needed |
|
● Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and/or OpenOffice
● Be proficient in using Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets
● Have basic experience working with spreadsheets
● Familiarity with Mailchimp is a plus
● Have a working computer and internet access
● Have good communication skills |

● Current SFDPP Certification
● Completion of OTS and OCC within two months if not already completed |
