Assistant Director for Formal Sciences, Starfleet Sciences

Description of Role: This position functions as third in command of the service to the SFSci Director and helps to oversee the activities of the Senior Scientists and Scientists who report specifically in Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science related matters.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with any of the Starfleet Auxiliary Services or Starfleet Academy. Preference will be given to those applicants who have completed previous tenure or coursework in the field of science or with Starfleet Medical. Similar experiences elsewhere in the real world will also be considered.

Primary duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Managing the staff in the place of the director and deputy director should they be absent. You will be required to submit the MSR to the Director of Auxiliary Services in place of the director and deputy director if they are not available.

You will be required to attend at least 2 meetings quarterly should they be requested by Auxiliary Service staff and/or meetings as requested by the SFSci Director.

Help SFSci Senior Staff with programming and written work to ensure compliance with Auxiliary Service policies.

The Assistant Director will also be responsible for creating, maintaining, and coordinating the SFSci Section Chief program and its subsequent inclusion in the SFSci manual. You will also be responsible for creating the material for the Formal Sciences section of the SFSci manual.

The Deputy Director will serve as FIRST point of contact for the Assistant Directors if complications should arise. If additional resolution is needed, then the Director can be contacted.

Help train new staff members.

Assist the Director with staffing decisions and other duties as required.

Skills Needed: Microsoft Office or Open Office (or similar, compatible program)

Good organizational and record-keeping skills

Good grammar, spelling, and proof-reading skills are STRONGLY encouraged.

Above average people skills, particularly the ability to be diplomatic and help resolve issues between others.

Experience with WordPress website creation is a bonus.

Training Requirements (if applicable): Candidate must have completed the following courses to be considered:

OTS and OCC

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is strongly desirable in this position.

Any 5 courses (in any combination) within the STARFLEET Institute of Science, Technology, Space Studies, or Alien Studies. **REAL WORLD course work will be taken in place of such courses**

Current SFDPP certification (minimum 101 and 102, and recertification if applicable)
