Description of Role
This position functions as the field expert in the department of SFI Heraldry: the practice of devising, blazoning, and granting armorial insignia under the STARFLEET brand. You will also assist, supervise and hire a Compliance Officer(s) who report specifically on possible trademark and/or copyright infringement.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with any of the Starfleet Auxiliary Services or Starfleet Academy. Preference will be given to those applicants who have completed coursework in the field of Business Law or Patent Law. Similar experiences elsewhere in the real world will also be considered.

Primary duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Managing one or two Compliance Officers (likely with less than 5+ years of fandom or real-world science experience). These staff members will assist you in monthly Discord discussions related to your field. You will be responsible for ensuring accepted Heraldry are used by STARFLEET, old and outdated images are removed from the SFI.org graphics repository, promoting and creating/maintaining your own discussions and publications.
You will be required to attend at least quarterly meetings should they be requested by Commander, STARFLEET and/or the VCS.
You will also be responsible for creating the material for your chosen section of the Membership Handbook and Marine Force Manual (if necessary).
The Compliance Officers Officer will serve as FIRST point of contact if the Fleet should require assistance, then they will escalate issues to the Heraldry Officer. If resolution is not met with the Heraldry Officer, he, she, or they will escalate to the CS.
Help train new staff members.
Assist the CS and Chief of Engineering and other duties as required.

Skills Needed
Microsoft Office or Open Office (or similar, compatible program). Understandings of Trademarks, Copyrights, Intellectual Property, and the basic principle of the “Berne Convention”

Business Degree preferred, but not required – relevant training and/or experience will be considered in lieu of a full degree.

OCC
Current SFDPP certification (minimum 101 and 102, and recertification if applicable)
